National Day Celebration

Happy National Day Singapore! Let us remember the wonderful memories we had with our class during National Day!

The performances were great, don’t you think? Which was your favourite performance?

The singing of National Day Songs were fun and engaging. We also got to do class activities.

Examination Preparation

Don’t you find examinations tough and maybe a little tiring to practise for? Well, if you think so, then this article is just right for you!

Firstly, let us talk about English Oral. It is a little hard to prepare for Oral, but there are a few ways you can do to hone your Oral skills.

1. Practise with your family members

2. Speak more English to hone vocabulary

3. Read more books for more vocabulary

4. Watch videos to learn more about some key points for every topic of Oral Examination.

Now, for the next part, we will talk about Paper 1. What is Paper 1? Well, Paper 1 is not only about Writing a Composition, but also Listening Comprehension. Here are some tips on how to make progress in Composition Writing:

1. Do Composition practise

2. Read more book for a wide range of vocabulary

3. Analyse Model Compositions and spot for any good phrases

4. Keep a book of good phrases

5. Revise through English Composition file.

As for Listening Comprehension, just listen closely to the key details. Answer the questions accordingly to what you hear, and you will ace it.

The final challenge is always Paper 2. Although some people may find Paper 2 difficult to do, with practise, everyone can get satisfactory results. The tips below may help you to improve on Paper 2.

1. Listen attentively when the Teacher is teaching. Taking down notes is optional, but definitely useful for revision too!

2. Go to online trustable websites to print out Paper 2 practises from other Singapore schools.

3. Do more English assessment books for revision and practise

Em’s Storywriting Team hopes you good luck in your examinations and hope these tips have come in handy. Remember not to stress yourself too much and get sufficient sleep every night so that you have enough energy the next day you go to school to pay attention to lessons.

Story Corner

Kiyami (Part 2)

Kiyami turned around, only to see two girls from the English division in her class. Kiyami never interacted with people before, so to make a good impression, she said "はい、もちろん( Yes, of course!)" Those girls from the English division only knew a bit of Japanese, but they were considered the better ones in the school so they could understand what Kiyami was saying. "Cool! can we hang out with you during lunch?" they asked. "By the way, She is Vanessa, and I am Judy. Can you meet us at table 16 today?" Kiyami could not understand and retorted with, "どういう意味ですか？私は英語があまりよく理解できません.(What do you mean? I cannot understand English so well.)" Judy took out the translator and translated both their message and Kiyami's message. Kiyami nodded and they walked to class together.

After a while, it was time for break time. During break time, students could hang out in the classroom or walk the grounds. It's like 30 minutes of free time. During the break, girls crowded around the table and started asking questions about Kiyami's new phone. Questions in Japanese and English was asked to Kiyami. Poor Kiyami, she was bombarded with a truck load of questions over a gadget.

Suddenly, a voice came from behind, "Stop it. She is shy and not so comfortable with people and besides, break is almost over so you should go back to your seats."

It was Judy and Vanessa! A smile was plastered on Kiyami's face. For her whole life, she had to solve her own problems. Kiyami decided to meet them during lunch today.

Not so long after, it was lunch. Kiyami took out her sandwich and water from her bag and went to the table. Vanessa and Judy were waiting for her.

"Hi again, Kiyami. I didn't expect to see you at the table today." Vanessa said.

"Hi Vanessa." Kiyami replied.

Vanessa and Judy chatted with Kiyami about their personal life. Kiyami contributed to the conversation too. She then shared her life on isolating herself for her entire life. Kiyami first felt the warmth of having friends

They agreed to meet again tomorrow.

After school, Kiyami walked to the park. She took out her sketchbook and started drawing the birds perching on the Sakura trees. She poured all her feeling to this Sakura tree hear the lake in the park. That tree, whom Kiyami called "親愛なる" was the only so-called friend in her life.

Will Kiyami continue to open up?
