Debate: what colour is this dress?

Look carefully at the dress:

Is the dress black and blue or white and gold?

  • black and blue

  • white and gold

  • IDK. Somehow I see both combinations of colours.

This picture of the dress had arguably been the biggest debate of the 21st century.

Why?

Because people from all over the world swearing it was white and gold. They simply could not understand how another group of people, who saw black and blue, saw black and blue.

This dress melted the internet as it became viral 10 years ago in 2015 and if you had seen the dress and argued in that year over this dress... I think you know what it was. Friendships were tested, fights and arguments broke out nearly every single night, over a problem with an answer that nobody could agree on. It simply broke the internet.

Some of you already know the answer but before I disclose it, I would like to take you back to the origins of this dress.

So this internet argument promptly began when a couple decided to get married and lets call the bride Ms X. So Ms X's mom had bought a dress that she saw black and blue. Happy with the dress, she decided to send it to Ms X. saying it was black and blue. Though Ms X, however, saw the dress as white and gold and told her mother. That day, she also sent it to her Facebook friends to ask them what colour it was. They all disagreed with her mom, saying it was white and gold also. Not surprisingly, the debate became popular and well known in the town Ms X lived.

A band that was playing at the wedding got so engrossed that they nearly forgot to go onstage and perform. So that day, one of the bandmates posted it online and it became viral. So viral that there was 4.4 million tweets in 24 hours on the subject of the dress.

And there you have it. I'm just going to reveal the answer.

Answer: The dress is Black and Blue.

And personally, I got black and blue. The statistics made in a study said that 57% said black and blue, 30% white and gold, and 3% of other colours. I don't know how they got that.

The reason why everyone saw different colours, simply explained, is because we trust our eyes a lot and also due to the lighting of the dress.

This dress is now celebrating it's tenth anniversary since it's gone viral.
